Bouganvillea

Bougainvillea (genus Bougainvillea), a genus of about 18 species of shrubs, vines, or small trees, belonging to the Nyctaginaceae family., It is a native to South America. Many species are thorny. Only the woody vines have attained wide popularity. Several species have produced bright cultivated varieties, which are often grown indoors and in conservatories.

The vine species grow anywhere from 1 to 12 m (3 to 40 ft.) tall. They scramble over other plants with their spiky thorns. Bougainvilleas are evergreen and grow well where rainfall occurs all year or deciduous and dry areas. The actual flower of the plant is small and generally white. But each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by three or six bracts with the bright colours associated with the plant. The colour including pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow.

  • Mature plants can be high fertiliser feeders.
  • High phosphorus with micronutrient-rich slow releasing fertilisers would be favourable
